From this first act of disobedience the world was “fallen.”
Since then man has been falling far short of God’s goodness and holiness. Man’s sin and disobedience separates him from a relationship with God. No matter how good man is he still falls infinitely short of God moral perfection.
Death, sin and suffering had entered the world and mankind had fallen away from God.
When we say a person is good - we are comparing him or her to other people who are less good on our human scale of goodness. But compared to God, none of us are even close to God’s infinite goodness.
The Bible’s word for falling short of God is sin. Sin is in each of us and separates us from a Holy and perfect God. As long as that sin remains in us, we have no chance of entering into a relationship with the Holy and morally perfect creator.
