SEEK COUNSEL

Wisdom and maturity in Christ comes through experience, victories and defeats.

It’s always wise to seek counsel from mature believers who have faithfully walked with Jesus for a long time.

If you don’t feel like you have a mentor to help you along, stop and pray that God would bring someone into your life! It may be a person in your community, a family member or even a follower of Jesus that you’ve connected with over the internet.

A good Biblical model is for older men to train younger men and older women to train younger women.

Seeking to grow from others who are a little bit further down the path will provide you with encouragement and strength.

They will help guide you in your walk with Jesus.

READ SCRIPTURE

1 PETER 5:5, NIV

5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

TITUS 2:3-5, NIV

3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.

4 Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children,

5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

LIVE IT

Who do you turn to most often for spiritual wisdom in following Jesus Christ?

If you do not have anyone, pray for God to bring someone into your life.

If you have a mentor, ask them to pray for specific needs in your life.

PRAYER

“Lord, would you please bring a spiritual mentor into my life? I really desire to have someone more mature than I am so I can live more effectively for you. I lack so much knowledge but I know that you will teach me through the Bible, this website, and a trusted spiritual mentor. I believe in you Lord Jesus! Amen.”
