The best way to talk to people about walking the path with Jesus is to be real and honest about your struggles. People are attracted to real people and are turned off by phony religion.
Jesus warned about the “yeast of the Pharisees.” What is that? It is hypocrisy, or pretending to be something you are not. Yeast is also arrogance, being cruel, judgmental or jealous toward others.
Hatred and hypocrisy act like yeast. In baking, yeast is used to make bread rise. It is hidden and it takes just a little to make the whole loaf expand. It moves rapidly. Jesus teaches you to avoid evil (yeast) in your heart because it too will spread rapidly.
MATTHEW 16:6-12, NIV
6 “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
7 They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”
8 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread?
9 Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?
10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?
11 How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
People take notice when you live out what you believe.
Talk with God about the inconsistencies in your life today. Are you believing and saying one thing but living in a different way? Don’t be a hypocrite! If you have given your life to Jesus Christ, you will begin to change and live a new life!
Commit yourself in God’s power to avoid hypocrisy and live authentically before God and others today.
“Father, would you forgive me of my hypocrisy? I’m sorry for saying one thing but acting completely opposite of that. I refuse to live this way anymore and ask for your Spirit to help me in this. Jesus, I know that you long to change everything and set me free to live a consistent life in you. Empower me to do this today. In Your Name I pray, Amen.”
