WHO IS ON THE THRONE?

Before receiving Christ we all sat on the “throne” of our own life. However, when we choose to follow Jesus, we make Him the King of our throne and our will.

Because we are still selfish there is a daily battle for the “throne of our life.” We have to make a daily choice about who will be our master.

We do not surrender control easily. We fight to maintain control. This is a common experience of all followers of Christ. You are not alone when this happens.

It is important to know that Christ has not left our lives when we sin. We simply need to get off of the throne and ask God to forgive us.

It is simple to put Christ back in charge. Go to Jesus and surrender control to Him.

Jesus always welcomes us back; He gives us strength.

READ SCRIPTURE

PSALM 25:1-10, NIV

1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul;

2 in you I trust, O my God.
Do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.

3 No one whose hope is in you
will ever be put to shame,
but they will be put to shame
who are treacherous without excuse.

4 Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths;

5 guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.

6 Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.

COLOSSIANS 3:8-10, NIV

8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices

10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

LIVE IT

God’s Word tells us that God is the King of all and that we are His children (Rom 8:16). It tells us that He is the shepherd and we are the sheep (Matt 25:32).

Who is on the throne, who’s the King, of your life right now?

If you’re sitting on a chair, get down on the floor to symbolically remind yourself that you are not in charge.

If you can, take a minute and pray at the foot of the chair closest to you. Tell God how you feel about getting off the throne of your life and if you’re ready for it, tell Him that He can have His place back as king of your life.

PRAYER

“God, here is the throne of my life. I trust you and your leading. Help me to remember to keep you on the throne and me at your feet, amen.”
